In the name of Allah the Beneficent, the Merciful.

The MoSC began as a small group of local Muslims, concerned that they were presently unable to practice their chosen way of life in the region of the Sunshine Coast. This region extends almost 100km along the coast north of Brisbane and has a population of approximately ¼ million people. It is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia. In April 2005 there were no halal food outlets or butcher, no congregational prayer, no Tafseer or Seerat study groups, let alone a Musallah or a Masjid where they lived. The nearest mosque is approximately 70km away. Their intention was to form a group that would bring the 200 or so Muslims living here together by following the way of the Prophet . There were 3 Aussies & a Paki. After the declaration, the second pillar of Islam is the establishment of the Salat.

I heard the Apostle of Allah say: If there are three men in a village or in the desert among whom prayer is not offered (in congregation), the devil has got the mastery over them. So observe (prayer) in congregation), for the wolf eats only the straggling animal. Sa'ib said: By the word Jama'ah he meant saying prayer in company or in congregation. Narrated by AbudDarda': Hadith 547 of Sunan of Abu-Dawood.

Jumma immediately commenced at a founding member’s house in Buddina. One Brother cried when he first came along “I had prayed that someone would come here and form the Jumma – Alhumdulillah”. The group decided to approach the local University for a Musallah, encouraged by the examples in Brisbane. Unfortunately there were no enrolled Muslims willing to attend Jumma there at that time, so this plan was abandoned. We received lots of support at that time with Brisbane Mosque’s donating their Minbar, their time (to do Kutbah) some books & a local brother donating prayer mats for the growing congregation. Jumma congregation reached 2 digits during 2005. We met at each other’s houses for Iftar during Ramadaan. A congregational leader from Melbourne visited us with his locally based family and exclaimed on entering, “This is our Medina”. We’re still not sure exactly what he meant by this but we surmised it was a reference to the Prophet’s building of the new Muslim community in Medina. Satan also saw our success and attempted to divide us. Fortunately the evil one’s plans were thwarted but not without some eventual toll. By the close of 2005, six families met and agreed to establish an association by firstly drafting a constitution. Muslim organisation (of the) Sunshine Coast - MoSC, as we decided to call ourselves already had a diverse background of Australian, Japanese, Indonesian, Pakistani, Turkish, Egyptian & Indian heritage.

2006 began with the yield of Satan’s work. Backbiting ensued (the Author is known to us!), several members dropped out, rumours circulated and it became harder to bring Brother’s up from Brisbane to deliver the Kutbah. But God is Great, the clean up occurred and local Brothers stepped up to do the Kutbah until someone more qualified would take over. Interstate visitors expressed their gratitude time and time over for providing us a place for Jumma. Attendance grew and so did the donation of goods & money to support our group. We began rotating the place of Jumma and misplaced some attendees in the process. Fortunately they found us again. Ramadaan was very successful for MoSC that year with the group celebrating Iftar together one in two evenings. After much discussion we agreed on a constitution that was equitable and not divisive taking heart from the meaning of Allah’s words “Truth stands our clear from Falsehood” 2:256. We began the process of registering the organisation with the Queensland Government.

For those of you who don’t know, the QLD government’s Associations Act & Regulation ensures transparency and accountability. All meetings & financial transactions of an Association are recorded. An audited statement is presented to the members at the Annual General Meeting each financial year. No individual member may own anything donated to the association or financially benefit from it.

By the end of the year MoSC consisted or families from Australian, Japanese, Indonesian, Pakistani, Turkish, Egyptian, Indian, French, Iraqi, Algerian, Italian & Bosnian heritage. It’s not surprising we were invited to the Multicultural Forums held by the Queensland Government. MoSC became a registered organisation, with ATO charity status (Tax exemption & not for profit), an interest free bank account and a website. We use the website to provide Muslims with information on our activities and make Dawaa. We seek to embrace Muslims of all backgrounds onto the one path, Allah has ordained through His servant Muhammad , not make apologies for misguided Muslims.

This year the inaugural executive committee began with several initiatives including offering Islamic Education classes & discussion to local schools and our own children. We achieved some success in both. We agreed to pursue Halal Certification for local food outlets & restaurants through the Islamic Council of Queensland, which we are in the process of doing. Check our website for details. We agreed to affiliate with ICQ as well. There are now 30 members registered with the organisation. Our recent inaugural Annual General Meeting elected a new committee who want to push forward with fund raising in order to establish a Mosque.

Who is he who will lend Allah a beautiful loan? 57:11 'Uthman reports that the Prophet said: "Whoever builds for Allah a mosque, seeking by it Allah's grace, Allah will build for him a house in paradise." This is related by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

This is where you Brother and Sister reading this come in. More than $11 000 dollars has been pledged by MoSC members to build a Mosque on the Sunshine Coast. Land on the coast is continually rising in price and being developed. Accommodation is at a premium with rental waiting lists sometimes 3 digits. Insh’Allah we will establish a Mosque in a central area accessible to all local Muslims but if we don’t act now, these areas will be fully developed. This will mean the price of land will be prohibitive and town planning difficult. Fortunately there are still large blocks of land available that will allow for future development. We need to raise enough money to at least put a deposit on a site. Some Brothers will visit all the established Mosques insh’Allah asking for help. He who Blindly Follows Anyone Apart from Allaah’s Messenger (saws) is Astray and Ignorant!!

O Muslims, if we blindly follow the madhhab of a man and then a hadeeth reaches us from the infallible Messenger (saws) whose obedience Allaah has made obligatory upon us and we then leave Prophet’s (saws) hadeeth and follow that man and his madhhab, then who can be more unjust than us and what will be our excuse when the people stand before the Lord of the Worlds?! So he who sticks blindly to a particular person other than Allaah’s Messenger (saws) and regards his saying as being the truth which is obligatory to follow to the exclusion of the other Imams, then he is astray and ignorant, rather he may be a Kaafir whose repentance is to be sought. Since if he believes that it is obligatory upon the people to follow a particular person from these Imaams, then he has given him the status of the Prophet (saws) and that is Kufr. The most that can be said is that it is permitted or obligatory for the common person to follow any Imaam without specifying anyone in particular. However, he who loves the Imaams and follows them all, taking of any of them which appears to be in conformity to the Sunnah, then that is good. But he clings blindly to one of them, leaving aside the rest, the he is like the one who clings blindly to a single Companion and leaves the rest, like the Raafidees, Naasibees and the Khaarijee and this is the way of the people of innovation and the followers of desires; those who are rebuked and have gone away from the truth, as is established by the Book, the Sunnah and the ijmaa’.

Shaykh ul-Islaam Ahmed Ibn Taymiyyah -rahimahullah- says in his Fataawaa al-Misriyyah, “If a man is following Abu Haneefah, or Maalik, or ash-Shaafi’ee or Ahmed –rahimahumullah- and he sees that in some questions that another madhhab is stronger and so he follows that then he has done something good. That dose not cause any harm to his Dees or his integrity, without any disagreement. Rather that is more correct and beloved to Allaah and his Messenger (saws), such as the one who blindly follows Abu Haneefah and thinks that the saying of this one in particular is the truth that has to be followed, in exclusion of that Imaam who contradicts him. So, he who does that is ignorant, rather he may be a Kaafir and we seek Allaah’s refuge from that.”

It is mentioned in al-Iqnaa’ and its explanation, “Making it binding to stick to a madhhab and prohibiting, i.e., the leaving of that for another, the more famous position is that, that is not that case. The great majority of scholars do not make it obligatory for anyone to stick to a particular madhhab, nor follow anyone in contradiction to Allaah and his Messenger, since Allaah, the Most High, made it obligatory upon everyone in every condition to obey his messenger Muhammad (saws).”

In the Book of judgements from Al-Insaaf, (it is mentioned that) ash-Shaykh Taqiyyuddeen Ibn Taymiyyah said, “He who makes it obligatory to blindly follow a particular Imaam, then his repentance is sought. Since this is associating parents with Allaah in setting down Sharee’ah, which is one of the unique rights of the Lord.”

On Tawhid

Allah – ta ala- said: “I have not created jinn and mankind except to serve Me….. And to every people we sent a prophet to convey to them that they ought to serve Allah and avoid al taghut….Your Lord has decreed that you shall serve none but Him, and show kindness to your parents…. Serve Allah and do not associate aught with Him…. Come, let me tell you what your Lord has forbidden you; namely, that you do not associate aught with Him.” *1
Ibn Mas’ud said: “Whoever wishes to ascertain the will of the Prophet Muhammad – salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam- a will on which the Prophet had set his seal, let him read the following words of Allah: ‘ Come, let me tell you what your Lord has forbidden you, namely, that you do not associate aught with Him… And that is My straight path.” *2

Mu’adh ibn jabal related: “I was riding behind the Prophet - salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam- when he said to me: ‘O Mu’adh! Do you know what is due to Allah from His creatures, and what is due them?’ I responded: ‘Allah and His Prophet know best.’ He continued: ‘What is due to Allah from His creatures is to serve Him alone and never to associate any other being with Him. What is due them is not o punish any person who dose not associate aught with Him.’ I said: ‘O Prophet of Allah, may I not then give that glad tidings to the people?’ He replied: ‘No! Do not reassure them lest they rely on the promise and lapse in their service to Him.” The foregoing hadith is reported in the two Sahihs.

The Unity of God

WHO IS ALLAH? ﷲ
Allah is the true God, who he alone is worthy of being worshipped, and who exists necessarily by himself, and to Whom all the Divine names and the sublime attributes of perfection belong.

Allah, the Exalted, has described Himself in His Book, and by the tongue of His Messenger (pbuh) as Sublime, Supreme and Lofty. The Qur’an is full of the proofs of Allah’s Loftiness. All of the pious predecessors of those upon the way of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his companions, believe in and confirm all of Allah’s attributes without distorting their meaning, or suspending them, and that Allah is the above the seven heavens, above His Throne and He is separated from His creatures.

The belief in Allah’s Loftiness is part of man’s innate knowledge and natural disposition and should not be subjected to hypothesis, reason or philosophical argumentation. All of the exalted, divine attributes are intrinsically related to the attribute of divine transcendence. Therefore, believing in them means believing in the transcendence of Allah, and rejecting them means rejecting the transcendence of Allah. Whoever believes that Allah is above His Throne, separated from His creatures, must also believe in the rest of Allah’s attributes, and that the heavens and the earth submit to His Will, and that He is the Great Lord of the worlds. Allah dose whatever He Wills and rules according to His own wishes.

The essential divine attributes of Allah constitute an integral part of Allah’s essence and are not superadded to it. They are to be accepted literally by the Muslim without drawing any conclusions or similarities to them. To deny them is evident blasphemy and heresy.

Where is Allah?

Allah, the Exalted, is mounting His Throne which is above the seven heavens in a manner, which befits His Majesty and Grandeur.

Proofs of the Loftiness of Allah from the Qur’an

Allah, the Exalted, commands the believers to refer their disputes and litigation to His Book and to the Sunnah of His Messenger (pbuh) , saying:
And in whatever case over which you are at variance, the decision thereon rests with Allah[1].
And He says:
And when you dispute over a thing then refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you believe in Allah and the Last day[2].
Therefore, the words of Allah, the Exalted, as well as the words of His Messenger (pbuh) must be held as the ultimate and decisive judgment. No judgment or decision should take precedence over theirs whether in issues related to Allah’s Divine Act or any other divine attribute.

By relying on reason for recognising religious truth, the rationalists, and the modernists assert the pre-eminence of reason over divine revelations. Whereas the loftiness of Allah, which is clearly affirmed in the Qur’an and the Sunnah, is beyond the realm of reason.

Contrary to the rationalists, the true faithful believe that the Throne of Allah is above the seven Heavens. They also believe that having created the seven heavens, the earth, and what is in them, Allah, the Exalted, mounted Himself above His Great Throne. He says:
Declare your Lord, the Supreme, as far removed from every imperfection or impurity[3].

“The Supreme, linguistically, is in the superlative signifying that Allah is higher than everything and is above all creatures in terms of essence, power, and invincibility”. Commenting on this ayah, Ibnul-Qayyim, may Allah grant him mercy, said:
All Muslims in the past and in the present raise their hands towards the heaven when supplicating Allah or seeking His help. They do not turn their hands down to face the earth, nor turn them right, left, or towards any other direction. They raise their hands up knowing that Allah is above them. They also say while prostrating in prayer: My Lord, the Supreme is far removed from every imperfection, or impurity.

If Allah is essentially everywhere, as some Muslims believe, then the above ayah should read, “Declare your Lord, around you, below you or everywhere, instead of describing Him as the ‘supreme’.

Allah says: “They fear their Lord Who is above them.” [4]

This ayah refers to the angels who are above us, and above them in our Lord, the Blessing Giver, and the Exalted. To leave no room for confusion, Allah confirms in this ayah that he is above the angels who are the residents of the heavens.

Ar-Rahman[5] has elevated Himself above the Throne.[6]

And verily, your Lord is Allah Who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and then ascended above the Throne.[7]

Allah also says: Do you feel secure that the One who is above the heaven will not cause you to sink into the ground? Or, do you feel secure that the One Who is above the heaven will not send a hurricane against you[8].

The renowned exegetes and commentators are agreed that the One Who is above the heavens is none but Allah Who has mounted His Throne in a manner which befits His Majesty.
